Sunday Funnies

Two little old ladies were attending a rather long service at their church. One leaned over and whispered, "My butt is going to sleep." Her friend leaned over and said, "I know. I heard it snore three times."

So, the day begins with a little laughter and at whose expense? Some poor little lady who has the winds something fierce and doesn't seem to realize it. This is, however, humor and not gossip because it isn't a true story about someone. Harmless in everyway and completely inoccuous. Gossip on the other hand may seem harmless but to the contrary may be very damaging.

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.
Eleanor Roosevelt seems to have been a very wise woman. Much of what we attribute to her makes heaps plenty sense. I have found these words echoing in my head in many instances when a conversation degrades and turns to a discussion about another person.

That may be true, but no one mind talks about one thing all the time. Oh man, you should see Seth Mitchell at my school. He's the kid sitting in the corner who's so out there that the teacher doesn't even care that he's got straight zero's anymore. Every single day, he's talking about these crazy ideas about how he's gonna colonize Venus or make way so he can structurize his own country/continent. He never talks about people. Just ideas mostly, and from time to time events. Great mind, sure. Applicable mind, no way.

You're correct. Some people can talk about their "ideas" and still have nothing that would support any argument that they have a great mind.

On the other hand, Eleanor Roosevelt's comments were more specific to gossip. To be honest, I don't care how important you might think your juicy information may be, it isn't.

The one dreaming at the last desk of the classroom is the guy we need the most, without his dreams, and the dreams of all other dreamers, mankind would be still in the trees, holding the branches tight whenever the wind blows.
If you read that 8000 miles away in your crystal bowl it's because someone dreamed about that possibility.

Yes, a dream is very often the foundation for great innovations. Computers, airplanes and telephones are just a few example of these things. I'm certain that if Samuel's friend were to act on his dreams, at the very least we might have some interesting scifi to come of it.

Um.... I really hope that he never does anything. Ever. He also happens to be the guy that last week, proclaimed it to be 'National Hump Day' around Wednesday and humped everything in sight. People, desks, podiums, you name it. Sometimes, he worries me. Hehe
